snorkeling under the Blue Heron Bridge or at the artificial reef on Singer Island; taking leisurely boat rides; visiting Peanut Island; or dining at the popular Sailfish Marina. Ideally situated just a few miles from West Palm Beach, North Palm Beach, and the island of Palm Beach, residents are just a short drive from popular shopping destinations like Worth Avenue, City Place, and the Gardens Mall. A few miles north is MacArthur State Park, a park dedicated to protecting the coastline and its natural ecosystems and habitats. Though Palm Beach Shores does not have its own golf club, residents have a plethora of choices nearby. To the south, The Breakers Palm Beach features a Rees Jones championship course, and, in the opposite direction, the North Palm Beach Country Club boasts a Jack Nicklaus Signature design.
In Palm Beach Shores, neighbors are friends, and friends protect their community’s charming character. The volunteer-based Turtle Patrol walks the beaches before sunrise in an effort to protect the nests of loggerhead turtles. Since 1979, the Ladies Auxiliary supports the town’s fire department by providing the workers with snacks, lunches, supplies, and hosting celebratory parties throughout the year. The Top of the Hill Gang is another community group whose primary purpose is to assist local beautification and preservation projects. And the Seasiders Club, established in 1951, is a social group of homeowners who ensure the friendly atmosphere and community camaraderie.
The history of Palm Beach Shores dates back to 1915 when the area was known as “Inlet City.” Most of the occupants were fishermen who flocked to the area because of its close proximity to the gulf stream. During that time period, the quasi-town had one store and one church, which also served as a school during the week. Mr. A.O. Edwards, the founder and developer of Palm Beach Shores, purchased the 240-acres in 1947, proclaiming that no other “unexploited property held the same promised, offered the fine elevation above sea level, with blue water on three sides, and such a splendid beach.” A couple of years later, he built the Inlet Court Hotel, which later became known as the Colonnades Hotel when John Macarthur bought it. The iconic hotel housed numerous celebrities including Bob Hope, Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, Paul Harvey, and Burt Reynolds. Today, Palm Beach Shores continues to be a secret treasure among Palm Beach County real estate. Residents gladly give the glory and attention to their Palm Beach and Singer Island neighbors as they prefer a quiet, quaint lifestyle centered around salt water.
